The pop culture synergy among young Canadians is on display in a wonderful way this week. The release of It Ends With Us in cinemas has Colleen HooverAfter about a year’s absence, the 2016 bestseller is back at the top of the fiction list.
The sales surge is fueled by rumors of bitter feuds between producer and lead actor Blake Lively and director and co-star Justin Baldoni. The delicious discord also played out at the box office, where the film grossed $50 million in its opening weekend despite mediocre reviews and a 58 percent Rotten Tomatoes rating.
The situation is similar with the young adult novel “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” by Holly Jacksonhas taken first place on the children’s and youth list with the release of its Netflix adaptation. The crime thriller is about 17-year-old detective Pippa, who solves a tragic murder-suicide that occurred in a small English town five years ago.
In factual news, Nancy PelosiThe biography “The Art of Power: My Story as America’s First Female Speaker of the House of Representatives” comes in at number 3. The title of the book is fitting: The former speaker is the most influential woman in the Democratic Party and was Donald Trump’s biggest thorn in his side.
