Top 25 high school student joins Kansas Jayhawks basketball roster after summer abroad

Niko Bundalo, a 6-foot-11, 215-pound power forward in his senior year of high school at Prolific Prep in Napa, California, has included the Kansas Jayhawks on his list of nine college basketball prospects.

Bundalo – who attended Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, Ohio, last school year – announced the final eight earlier this month: Kentucky, UConn, Michigan State, North Carolina, Ohio State, Pitt, Texas and Xavier.

On Tuesday, KU was added, bringing his final list of potential colleges to nine.

He has scheduled campus visits to UConn (August 31), MSU (September 6), OSU (September 21) and UNC (October 4). He told 247sports.com he is in the process of arranging a campus visit to KU as well as Kentucky.

“I think the opportunity at Kansas is really unique and I think my style of play fits them well,” Bundalo told 247sports.com. “When I was in Serbia this summer, I didn’t really get the chance to talk in depth with the coaching staff because of the time difference.”

“I didn’t really know that they (KU) wanted me that much. But now, after some conversations with myself and my parents, I feel like they really have a lot of interest and I could really flourish there as a basketball player and young man. That’s why I decided to take them.”

Bundalo, whose father is from Serbia and whose mother is from Bosnia (Niko was born and raised in Ohio), is ranked 24th in the 2025 high school recruiting class by ESPN.com and 247sports.com and 37th by Rivals.com.

This summer, he accepted an invitation to play for his father’s home country in the FIBA U18 Eurobasket 2024 tournament. He spent the summer at home, training with the Serbian U18 national team.

He previously had Alabama, UCLA, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Notre Dame, Texas Tech, Louisville, Nebraska and others on his list.

Of his transfer to Prolific Prep for his final year of high school basketball, he told Eric Bossi of 247sports.com, “I think it’s going to be standard for me to be challenged every day as a basketball player. I want to get into the hot streak as soon as possible. I want to go out there and play against the best players in the country and show that I can compete with those guys.”

At Prolific Prep, Bundalo will be a teammate of No. 3 ranked Darryn Peterson, who has KU, Kansas State, Ohio State, Kentucky, Louisville, USC, Washington and Arizona State on his final list.

“We’re from the same area and I’ve known him for a while. I grew up playing against him, so Darryn and I are my guy. I think it could be a match made in heaven when you talk about dynamic duos,” Bundalo told 247sports.com.

Paul Biancardi of ESPN.com wrote of Bundalo: “He’s a skilled and mobile forward who can score by finishing, shooting and playing in the post. He’s a left-handed shooter who can pass with vision in tight spaces and out of the low post, and he’s shown the ability to rebound and push in transition. A versatile talent.”
