CALVERT, Texas (KRHD – The Eloia Theatre is planning a fall performance to bring new life and energy to downtown Calvert.

  • Built in 1929, the Eloia Theatre was one of the original three movie theaters in Calvert.
  • The Eloia Theater plays Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 steps from 18 October to 3 November.

TRANSCRIPT OF THE MESSAGE:

“I think this will be a huge benefit to downtown Calvert and to Robertson County,” said Harold Maris, owner of the Eloia Theater.

The Eloia Theatre is one of the most historic locations in downtown Calvert.

“As far as I know, there is no other venue like this in Robertson County for live theater productions,” Maris said.

And there’s a comeback coming this fall.

“Calvert will probably be the first time they have had the opportunity to come here on a weekend and see a high-quality live production,” Maris said.

Harold Maris is the owner of the Eloia Theater.

Maris hopes that this upcoming production will bring not only joy and entertainment, but also growth and development to the town of Calvert.

“I am extremely proud to own the theater and very excited about the next steps we will take with it to see what will happen to the theater in the future,” he said.

“It is an important part of downtown Calvert’s history and as the only one remaining, it holds a prominent historical place here in Calvert,” Maris said.

15 ABC walked through Calvert to talk to some neighbors about this historic revival.

Gwen Butler is a business owner in downtown Calvert and is excited about Calvert’s growth.

“I’m just excited about the growth that’s happening in Calvert right now. I feel like we’re seeing a surge in different things and it’s all very exciting,” Butler said.

She told 15 ABC She wants more neighbors to recognize Calvert’s story

“I think Calvert has a long history, and there’s a lot of history in this town, and I think that alone is a reason for people to come and explore the history of Calvert,” Butler said.

“I think we’re going to see a big turnaround in Calvert, Texas, in the next two years,” Maris said.
