Rumor: Firesprite Games’ next title is a new Forbidden Siren game

The evidence is somewhat scant, but it is a tantalizing possibility.

MP1st has gathered some details about what they believe will be Firesprite’s next title.

Firesprite Games has been around since 2012, but the rollercoaster ride as an official PlayStation studio only began last year in 2021. After the release of Horizon: Call of the Mountain In 2023, Sony announced that there would be massive layoffs at the studio.

These layoffs are well remembered as they occurred across PlayStation’s various studios and divisions around the world, but it’s important to remember that there are still unresolved allegations that a toxic work environment developed at Firesprite during production. Horizon: Call of the Mountain.

These allegations include claims that the studio’s founders were forced to leave, that Sony hired two new heads from another studio called XDev, whom Firesprite employees accused of discrimination, and that Sony’s mismanagement resulted in the team lacking talent for certain roles.

While we have yet to learn the truth about these allegations, it seems Sony has already taken steps to address some of these issues. Late last month, we reported that Firesprite had new positions to fill and that these new positions were advertised after the layoffs ended.

These job postings suggested that Firesprite is currently working on a horror title, and has been since 2022. But now MP1st seems to think it knows even more.

In their latest report, they claim that all evidence points to Firesprite being a new game in Sony’s siren Franchise. We won’t get into the specifics, but they mostly looked at resumes of former Firesprite employees to find any leads on this game. And what stood out was a resume that claimed they were working on a “pre-determined IP.” They also believe the game will come to PC as well.

sirenor perhaps more precisely, Forbidden Sirenis a 2000s franchise produced by Sony that resulted in three games and a film adaptation. At the height of Japanese supernatural horror films, the franchise revolves around a supernatural menace called the Shibito, who infects the village of Hanuda in the first game and populates the island of Yamijima in the second.

A key figure in this franchise is Keiichiro Toyama. He was the director of the first silent Hill for Konami and was also director for all three siren Games. Today he no longer works at Sony, but at the studio he founded, Bokeh. Bokeh is preparing to release its first original horror title Slotted headprobably still this year.

It is possible that Sony will move forward with Forbidden Siren with or without Toyama, but if it’s unlikely that he’s involved, that certainly casts doubt on this speculation. In any case, we probably won’t hear anything about this game for a few years, as it’s definitely in the middle of development.
