In the final round of the BMW Championship, Rory McIlroy broke his driver in half after a faulty tee shot on the par-4 9th hole.
McIlroy’s TaylorMade driver shaft broke in two when he applied pressure to it while bending down to pick up his tee peg.
The Northern Irishman’s ball flew towards the water on the right side, but McIlroy was lucky because his ball came to rest on the grassy bank just before the waves.
McIlroy then took off his shoes and socks and played a fantastic second shot onto the green.
He would get away with a par.
But unfortunately without a driver.

Earlier this week, McIlroy half-heartedly threw his driver into the lake.
However, he managed to get his driver back.

McIlroy will not win the BMW Championship, but he has safely qualified for the 30-man FedEx Cup final of the Tour Championship next week.
The third-ranked player in the world is a three-time winner of the FedEx Cup in East Lake.
McIlroy’s driver crash on Sunday came an hour after Matt Fitzpatrick yelled at a referee for not being able to replace his driver because he believed it had a crack in the face.
The PGA Tour rules official deemed that the crack did not constitute “substantial damage” under the Local Rules, and Fitzpatrick was therefore unable to replace his driver.
Scottie Scheffler, who played alongside Fitzpatrick, was also not happy with the decision.
