CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Cleveland police have released several images of a man they identified as a “person of interest” in connection with the hit-and-run that left a 7-year-old boy dead.
Amir Maclin was killed on August 16 at around 7:20 p.m.
According to police, the little boy was riding his skateboard in the parking lot of the Lakeshore Beach Apartments on Lakeshore Boulevard when he was hit by a large SUV with tinted windows.
The driver drove off a few seconds after the accident and on Saturday, August 17, police found the SUV, but it was abandoned.
Rayshawnda Maclin, Amir’s mother, said her son enjoyed everything he tried.
“There was nothing he didn’t like, wrestling, man. That was his first year as a football player. He loved playing outside. He was just a joy to be around,” Maclin says.
She also said her son is a wonderful big brother to her two-year-old daughter.
“I can’t eat, I can’t sleep. I close my eyes and see images of my son that no mother should see,” says Maclin.
Outside the apartment complex, a growing memorial to Amir is taking shape, with balloons, stuffed animals, candles and cards.
