Paul Weller has been popular in his native Britain for over half a century. Having enjoyed commercial success with groups such as The Jam and The Style Council, he has worked as a solo artist for many years. He is so popular that even his older projects can become best sellers… as long as fans are given a new reason to buy.
The Rocker Fly On The Wall – B-Sides & Rarities returns to several charts, even making it to the top of a UK list this week. The compilation isn’t exactly new, though. Weller released the project in 2003, but now it’s back on the charts.
Fly on the wall was recently re-released as a three-LP deluxe edition. Superfans of the rock musician obviously wanted to support him and own a copy of the expanded compilation, and all of their purchases helped make the title a huge success again.
Weller’s B-sides collection debuts at number 6 on the UK Official Album Sales Chart, giving him his tenth top 10 hit on the country’s list of best-selling albums and EPs, regardless of format or style.
Fly on the wall reaches the fifth highest spot on the official album sales charts during this period, as the upper reaches of the list are dominated by exciting new releases. Weller’s decades-old release – which is new to the purchase-only list – lands behind Beabadoobee, Will Young, Elles Bailey and even Elvis Presley, who appears just one place ahead of him.
The same compilation also makes it onto the market in two other rankings. Fly on the wall reappears on both the Official Physical Albums and Official Vinyl Albums charts, coming in at number 6 on the Official Physical Albums chart. Weller’s 2003 bestseller almost made it onto the vinyl-only chart, reappearing at number two.
