Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart on waiting list for Davey O’Brien Award

Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart on waiting list for Davey O’Brien Award

On Thursday, the list of candidates for the Davey O’Brien Award was released and a well-known name, Ole Miss Rebels quarterback Jaxson Dart, made it onto the list.

The Davey O’Brien Award is given each year to the best quarterback. The award is named after legendary college quarterback Davey O’Brien, who played at TCU. O’Brien’s 1938 season was one of the most impressive of all time, as he won the Heisman Trophy, the Maxwell Award and the Walter Camp Player of the Year award, making him the first player to win both the Heisman and Maxwell Awards in the same season.

Jaxson Dart is entering his third year at Ole Miss, where his jump from freshman to sophomore made him one of the better quarterbacks in the SEC, and another year in the system could make him one of the better all-around players in the country.

Dart is also surrounded by an incredible amount of talent that could help him achieve some personal bests in 2024. Still, Dart would be the first to say that his recognition means nothing compared to the goals the Rebels have as a team for 2024.

Team success equals personal success, and the only thing on mind at the Manning Center is to improve every day. That attitude will pay off in December and possibly January.

The Rebels open the season on August 31 against the FCS Furman Paladins and hope to end it with the program’s first appearance in the College Football Playoffs.
