Family and friends are the ones you can always turn to when things get tough or when you just need someone to listen. You can confide in them about almost anything, but there are still limits to how much you can share with family members. To shed light on how much is too much when sharing life updates with family, entrepreneur coach and mentor Tore Kesicki, better known on TikTok as @mindbodynetwork, shared a video on the platform. He lists the do’s and don’ts and says, “Four things you should never share with your family members.”
He began with “number one, marital problems,” and recommended that everyone avoid sharing marital or relationship problems with family members or people who care about both partners. “Family members may forgive you sometimes, but they never forgive them.” Second, he urged people not to share things that someone else has told them in confidence. “Any other family secrets that someone else has shared with you. Keep them, they were your own,” he added.
In his third point, he shared that people should be careful when talking about their mental health. “Families tend to like to use that crap against you, especially when they’re mad,” he said. In his fourth and final point, Kesicki talked about how revealing life goals can also be a problem. He said, “And number four, don’t share your income or your life goals. Haters are all over the world, and believe me when I tell you there are haters in your family.” The video resonated with TikTok users and went viral, garnering over 943,000 views on the platform.
It sparked a discussion in the comments as many users shared their experiences and opinions. “Yep. I learned my lesson from my mom. I love her but she is a gossip. She shared an extremely personal secret with some family members and it devastated me. That was 30 years ago,” @l231398 wrote. “I stay away from family! Never trust a single family member,” @adamy665 admitted. While @he_him_heyyou disagreed with his stance, adding, “Haters are everywhere in the world and believe me when I tell you there are haters in your family too.”
In another video, Kesicki talked about six things everyone should keep to themselves, no matter who they are. While reiterating points like keeping goals and financial objectives private, he also talked about other things like “not bragging” about your possessions. “People talk about your stuff, and nobody likes a ‘braggart,'” he said. He also talked about keeping your good deeds to yourself is the right thing to do.
“The world needs a lot of kindness and in my opinion it is wrong to share your kindness while others are watching,” he shared. Viewers in the comments section unanimously agreed with Kesicki. “I never understood why people are so open about their business and how it operates. Always move in silence,” @txhillcountrynative wrote, while @sannissansanjuan added, “I kept my personal life a secret for 25 years. I was super successful because I didn’t tell anyone.”
