Almost a year after his death, Margaritaville Times Square keeps Jimmy Buffett’s mission alive.
The resort opened its doors in 2021, bringing a little piece of paradise to a bustling part of Midtown. The hotel is a popular option for out-of-town visitors, but also for those looking to spend a vacation in the Big Apple with totally optional hanging out.
“Margaritaville brings a slice of paradise to the bustling city of New York. What sets us apart is our ability to transport guests to a tropical oasis and provide them with an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Our inspired décor with palm trees and beach vibes creates a relaxing atmosphere that is unmatched in the city,” said Jack Runkle, General Manager of Margaritaville Resort Times Square.
All 234 hotel rooms offer guests a tranquil yet relaxed island-style atmosphere where they can truly unwind during their stay. Margaritaville Times Square offers some traditional hotel amenities such as a fitness center, business center, room service and an outdoor pool, as well as VIP turndown service, laundry and dry cleaning services and an on-site gift shop.
The hotel prides itself on outstanding customer service and aims to ensure a relaxing and comfortable stay for everyone, whether they are the son of a sailor or not.
“Our primary goal at Margaritaville Resort Times Square is to ensure that every guest experiences a moment of relaxation and enjoyment reminiscent of a carefree island vacation,” said Runkle.
What sets Margaritaville Times Square apart from its New York City counterparts is the variety of themed restaurants on-site, such as the aptly named Margaritaville Restaurant (where you can find your own Statue of Liberty), Landshark Bar & Grill, License to Chill Bar, and 5 o’Clock Somewhere Rooftop Bar. Each restaurant puts its own spin on the island theme (you can even get your own cheeseburger in paradise), and there’s no shortage of buffett drinks and, of course, margaritas.
“Our live entertainment, 5 o’Clock Somewhere Rooftop Bar with breathtaking views and a diverse menu that captures the essence of island life make us a standout destination,” said Runkle. “We are committed to providing exceptional service and delicious cuisine at our restaurants, including Margaritaville and Landshark Bar & Grill, as well as a fun, inviting atmosphere where guests can relax and create lasting memories. We aim to exceed expectations by providing unique culinary experiences and world-class hospitality that reflects the relaxed, friendly spirit of Margaritaville.”
On Labor Day weekend 2023, Jimmy Buffett passed away after a long battle with cancer. Although he has passed away, Margaritaville Times Square continues to work to carry on his legacy by embodying the lifestyle and values he held dear.
“Our decor and overall ambiance stay true to the island spirit. We are also involved in the community through various initiatives, including an upcoming day of service that reflects his love of music, the ocean and giving back,” Runkle said.
Runkle also says the hotel continues to work to foster a sense of community among its guests by creating interactive activities, such as the Margaritaville bar crawl that staff prepared in honor of National Tequila Day.
Still, and perhaps it’s because of his music, which plays everywhere from the restaurants to the elevators, it’s hard to walk around the hotel grounds without sensing a little of Buffett’s spirit in the air, ready to make margaritas out of limes.
“Our goal is to keep his spirit alive by ensuring that every visitor feels the warmth, fun and relaxation that he so passionately shared with the world,” Runkle said.
