ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. – The race in the Republican primary for St. Lucie County elections supervisor was as close as it could be, with Jennifer Frey beating George Umasky by just two votes, according to unofficial counts.

The count shows that Frey received 12,777 votes and Umasky received 12,775 votes.

WPTV reporter Michael Hoffman went to the St. Lucie County elections office and confirmed that the recount will take place on August 23 at 7 a.m.
Under Florida law, a manual recount occurs if the difference in votes is 0.25% or less.

The winner of the race between Frey and Umansky will face Democrat Gertrude Walker, who is seeking her 12th term as Supervisor of Elections. Walker was appointed to the office in 1980.
