HEADLINES:
– Calmer weather ahead
-Partly cloudy with a slight chance of rain Saturday
-Scattered showers on Sunday and Monday
FORECAST:
Things will start to calm down this weekend and next week, but we will still be somewhat unsettled across the region, just not nearly as unsettled as last week. Clouds will linger this evening, perhaps even a scattered shower as we progress; However, they’re not for everyone – most backyards should stay on the drier side. Temperatures will start in the lower to mid 70s this evening before falling back into the upper 60s as late as midnight as clouds hinder any major cooling we might see this fall evening. More good news: The New River (which experienced major flooding in many stations yesterday) will continue to recede)
The night sky will be cloudy, a scattered shower is possible, but in most places it won’t even be visible. Lows will be in the mid 60s, mountains may dip into the lower 60s.
On Sunday, the remnants of Helene will be absorbed by a higher-altitude low-pressure area to the west – and that low-pressure area will move just a touch to the east thanks to minimal steering currents. For us that means more clouds in the morning and a few rain showers in the afternoon and evening. It won’t rain all day, it certainly won’t be as heavy or as active as Friday, but have your rain gear ready as you close out the weekend. Highs will be in the low to mid 70s.
There are likely to be more of them, at least in the first half of next week. This low pressure system is in no hurry to move, so we will maintain areas of scattered showers at least through Wednesday. Nothing serious or weather alert worthy, but we will avoid further rain as we move forward. We will work to reduce (but perhaps not eliminate) the chance of rain as we head into the second half of next week. So temperatures will start to rise in the future. Lower to mid 70s to start the week; mid to upper 70s to finish it off.
