Keep Vermilion County Beautiful targets Danville area

Keep Vermilion County Beautiful targets Danville area

An area near downtown Danville is looking better thanks to the work of some volunteers from Keep Vermilion County Beautiful. They pitched in Saturday to clean up an area west of Palmer Arena and down to a boardwalk along the Vermilion River.

Brenda Adams, executive director of Keep Vermilion County Beautiful, explained why this area was targeted…

{AUDIO: “We’ve looked at some areas that need to be cleaned up. (We) have spoken to some city officials who have recommended that this place needs to be cleaned up. There are some leftover items from the warehouse that need to be picked up since people are no longer there. So we’re just trying to keep the area clean and nice.”}

(This area west of Palmer Arena and near the intersection of Main and Gilbert Streets was part of the area affected by the KVCB cleanup.)

Adams noted that Keep Vermilion County Beautiful operates statewide. Some of the volunteers who helped in Danville on Saturday actually live in Hoopeston. Another cleanup is coming up soon…

{AUDIO: “Our next cleanup will be on September 21st.st at the Vermilion River Fall Festival. And we will be doing a cleanup at Ellsworth Park at that time, so contact me if you are interested in our next cleanup at that time.}

(Some of the items were removed along a path west of Palmer Arena.)

Adams explained how volunteers can get involved…

{AUDIO: “They can contact me on Facebook or by email at [email protected]. I would be happy to get them into memberships and help them with some of our events – like our trash pick-ups. And whatever they’re interested in, we can get them involved.”}

Keep Vermilion County Beautiful provides pickers, gloves, vests and other equipment. They just need volunteers who are willing to help.
