Filming for the series has begun in Bristol, but it is unclear whether the location is essential to the series’ plot. “The Crow Girl” is an adaptation of the book trilogy of the same name by Erik Axl Sund – the pseudonym of the Swedish author duo Jerker Eriksson and Håkan Axlander Sundquist.

Psychotherapist Sophia Craven (Kelly) teams up with DCI Jeanette Kirkland (Myles) after a teenager’s body is discovered in plain sight. The pair work together to hunt down the boy’s killer while facing resistance from higher-ups in the force, including DI Lou Stanley (Scott).

“The investigation leads them into a dangerous world of historic abuse and murder,” the synopsis states. “Together they uncover a chain of shocking events that have gone unnoticed for decades, as well as evidence of police corruption.”

“As the body count rises and the two women are drawn into the depths of the murders, an intimacy develops between them and so begins a complex, twisted love story. Meanwhile, the killer comes ever closer to home.”

In a press release, Kelly shared her excitement to be part of the production: “I am thrilled to begin filming this gripping story in beautiful Bristol.”

“The book is exciting and Milly Thomas’ scripts are even better. I look forward to further unravelling the character of Sophia as the series progresses.”

Myles revealed that the cast and crew had a “really great first few weeks on set” and she was excited for viewers to get to know her “captivating” character Jeanette.

The supporting cast includes Victoria Hamilton from “The Crown” as Superintendent Verity Pound and Clara Rugaard, who appeared alongside Hilary Swank in the 2019 Netflix film “I Am Mother”.

“The Crow Girl” is expected to air on Paramount+ in the UK and Ireland.
