From 2016 to 2023, viewers followed mother-daughter duo Karen E. Laine and Mina Starsiak Hawk as they purchased and remodeled homes in their hometown of Indianapolis. Good bones.
Karen, who had previously worked as a lawyer, opened a business with Mina called Two Chicks and a Hammer in 2008. Over time, they made a name for themselves, and eventually HGTV called after a talent scout from the network saw their work on Facebook.

The show was a hit, and although Two Chicks and a Hammer was canceled the same year, Good bones ended on television, that doesn’t mean that viewers have seen the last of Karen and Mina.
In fact, they returned in August 2024 with Good Bones: A New Beginning. So, how are the two shows different? Let’s dive in…

How is “Good Bones: New Beginnings” different from the original “Good Bones”?
On the one hand Good Bones: A New Beginning is a miniseries. While the original series ran for eight seasons, New beginnings is only planned for a duration of three weeks.
And while Good bones Episodes usually have a running time of 60 minutes, the premiere episode on August 14th of New beginnings provides some variety with a special running time of 90 minutes. However, the last two episodes will be one hour long.

What is “Good Bones: New Beginnings” about?
The show follows Karen and Mina as they individually develop their home renovation plans beyond Indianapolis. Mina buys an old lake house north of the city and has big plans to turn it into a dream home. Karen, meanwhile, heads to Wilmington, North Carolina, where she buys a bungalow that needs a lot of work before she can turn it into a beach oasis.

In the extended premiere episode, viewers will get to see the ins and outs of the home buying process and renovation as Mina works to secure and transform her lakefront home. She tackles the project alongside her husband, Steve Hawk, and their two children, Jack and Charlotte. Along the way, Mina must also make some difficult decisions about the future.

The next two episodes focus on Karen and her work on the 120-year-old beach house, including all the unexpected events along the way – like the bad weather that threatens to ruin everything.
When does “Good Bones: New Beginnings” premiere and on which days will it air?
Good Bones: A New Beginning Premieres Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at 9 p.m. ET on HGTV. You can also stream the show on Max the same day and time. The next two episodes of the three-week series will also air on Wednesdays at 9 a.m., so be sure to mark your calendars for August 21 and 28 after the premiere episode.
