What about your houseplants? As someone who enjoys home gardening, I can understand wanting to break out of the stereotypical box of succulents, spider plants and fiddle leaf figs and find something more eye-catching and unusual – but where do you find these less common plants?
Well, according to plant lover Ashley Anita, you might want to try your luck at Home Depot. They have plenty of “rare” (or at least less common) houseplants that will really spice up your indoor greenery. Check these out:
Home Depot has significantly upped their houseplant inventory with some impressive finds! Ashley (aka @lifewithashleyanita) was especially excited about all the philodendrons they had on sale, many of them at discounted prices. Granted, philodendrons themselves aren’t particularly unusual houseplants, but her Home Depot had some exciting, rarer varieties, including the Jungle Boogie plant. And the fun didn’t stop with the phildendrons. Home Depot (at least Ashley’s location) had a veritable horticultural haul of fabulous ficuses, homey hoyas, stylish stromanthes, and more!
But what Ashley’s followers found most remarkable here were the prices. There’s nothing here that you wouldn’t find at an exotic plant nursery, but the deals alone (compared to the prices at a boutique plant shop) were nothing to sneeze at.
“I paid $80 for my Calathea at a small independent shop. But I’m still going to Home Depot and see if my local store has any in stock now. Thanks for the post!” said @nataliefurgeson.
“I paid $180 for my Gloriosum…with discount,” lamented @kellyboyanski. Should have run to Home Depot!
To be fair, not everyone will have as much luck as Ashley at independent nurseries. Availability of potted plants can vary greatly from store to store and often the price for the low prices at Home Depot is less expert care. Some commenters complain that their Home Depot plants got too much water or had spider mites (other commenters found their Home Depot plants in excellent condition, however – it all depends a lot on location).
This isn’t to discourage anyone from buying plants at Home Depot, but temper your expectations. Check the website first to see what plants your local store has in stock, and inspect your plants in person instead of ordering them online!
Labor Day Sale
If you’re keen to stop by Home Depot and buy some plants soon, do it this week. Home Depot is currently having a huge Labor Day Sale from now through September 4th with great discounts and deals available both online and in stores across the US.
There are tons of items on sale in every department (yes, even the garden department), so if you’ve been putting off a big home improvement purchase, now’s the time to do it. By the way, this sale also applies to most Halloween decorations right now—and who doesn’t need a 12-foot skeleton in their garden in October?
