Hiland breaks out in second half, surprises Orrville in boys soccer

Hiland’s Logan Hershberger scored five goals on Saturday to lead a 6-0 win over Orrville.

Zeke Bodiker scored another point, while Noah Troyer, Christian Mullet and Roman Tkachuck each had an assist. Chase Coblentz finished the game with a stop and Adam Miller led the Red Riders with four saves.

“This was a good win against a solid Orrville team,” Hawks coach Scott Bodiker said. “We played pretty well in the first half, but had to refocus a little at halftime. Then we had a 20-minute stretch where we played great and every possession went in our favor. Our seniors had never beaten Orrville at the college level, so they were ready to go today.”

Boys football

Waynedale 2, Triway 1: Two consecutive goals late in the first half were enough for Waynedale to move up.

Ernesto Reyes and Weston Hilty each scored a goal for the Golden Bears, with Hilty assisting on the first goal. In goal, Neal Brewer made five saves and his counterpart Keplar made four saves.

Landon Hochstetler scored the goal for the Titans five minutes before the end after an assist from Anderson Quinteros.

Tuslaw 3, Chippewa 1: Chippewa lost this match to Tuslaw. The Chipps’ only goal was scored by Luke Blaz and goalkeeper Alex Rodriquez made five saves.

Norwegian 2, Perry 1: Norwayne scored twice, Cooper Ringle and Braden West both found the back of the net. Parker Metsker and Jon Graham had assists and Gideon Steiner had two saves on net.

Girls’ soccer

Hiland 6, Manchester 0: Italee Mullet scored a hat trick, Kailyn Miller two and Hiland rolled the dice.

Ally Raber scored the sixth goal, Chloe Beach added a hat trick of assists and goalkeeper Allie Hershberger made two saves to seal the clean sheet.

“Good team win,” said Hawks coach Conner Lee. “We’re happy to have our first shutout of the season.”

Waynedale 3, Triway 1: Nayeli Cruz, Anna Pittman and Cinthia Reyes each scored a goal, Cruz assisted on two goals and Waynedale defeated Triway. In goal, Mylah Moore made eight saves.

Kylee Strong scored the Titans’ only goal on a penalty kick and Addison Gentry made six saves.

West Holmes 2, Tri-Valley 2: West Holmes drew with Tri-Valley. Charli Murphy led the way with two goals, Averee Troyer and Aveona Yoder each had an assist. In goal, Lily Rittenour made seven saves.

volleyball

Dalton defeated Canton Central Catholic 25-14, 25-18 and 25-13: Dalton achieved this victory over CCC thanks to a great performance from Sara Geibel with 24 kills and 12 digs. Also playing well were Chloe Ruehling with 14 service points and Sophia Surmay with 31 assists.

Hillsdale defeated Triway 25:20, 21:25, 25:19 and 25:22: Hillsdale scored a big win over Triway by winning the final two sets. The Titans were led by Lauren Fishburn with eight kills, nine digs and 13 points, and Mia Mariola finished with eight kills, eight digs and seven points. Sydney Frank added two solo and three assisted blocks and had six kills, Audrey Walton added 10 kills and Reagan Underwood had 15 digs.

No statistics were reported for the Falcons.

Philo defeats West Holmes, 25-21, 25-22, 25-20: West Holmes fell to Philo in this non-conference matchup. The Knights were led by Mallory Marmet with 11 kills, Greta Rolince with 13 digs and Allie Snyder with 21 assists and 12 digs.
