RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – Rapid City’s population continues to grow, so more housing is needed in all communities. That’s why the Good Samaritan Society is renovating to offer more services for seniors. The society purchased the former St. Martin’s Convent in 2023, thinking it would be the perfect building for their expansions.
The Rapid City campus has been in operation for about 10 years and currently serves nearly 1,000 seniors in skilled nursing, assisted living, independent living and home health care.
The new renovations will create 33 additional beds, 22 of which will be for the current assisted living program and 10 for the dementia care unit, a new addition to the campus.
“Dementia care is something we haven’t had on this campus before, so we’re excited to have that option on the rest of our campus,” says Aimee Middleton, CEO of the Good Samaritan Society. “So maybe a resident is moving into a more independent living environment with their spouse and one of them needs dementia care in the future. Now they can stay on the same campus and visit their loved ones regularly.”
Middleton added that the Good Samaritan Society has deep roots in the Rapid City community and is looking forward to continued expansion. Construction is expected to be completed and open to residents in spring 2025.
