The message from A good omen The renewal for a third and final season came last December, and while it felt like fans still had plenty of time to say goodbye to their beloved characters, the conclusion of season two only brought the reality closer. Now, Michael Sheenwho plays the angel Aziraphale in the series, builds anticipation by giving a glimpse of what fans can expect from the final season.
In an interview with TV Insider, Sheen expressed his excitement for the upcoming season and emphasized his commitment to a finale that “satisfying experience” for fans. The actor will reunite with co-star David Tennant, who plays the demon Crowley in the Prime Video adaptation of Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s 1990 novel of the same name.
“It’s still in development, but of course I’m delighted to be working with David again and I love this character. I’m very excited about it…
One of the extraordinary things about being part of
(A good omen)
is the audience, the fans, the fandom. You have to take it very seriously because people are really affected by it. And to see how people reacted to the end of season 2 was extraordinary. So yes, I hope and am sure that season 3 will be a satisfying experience for everyone.”
The story of Aziraphale and Crowley has kept us on the edge of our seats for two seasons, and now that development on the final season is underway, fans can trust that Gaiman’s vision will provide closure and bring their overwhelming relationship to an end.
The Good Omens team reacts to the heartbreaking ending of season two
Season 2 of A good omen ended on a poignant note, leaving fans emotionally devastated. We see Crowley insisting that the two leave everything behind and spend the rest of their immortal lives together, but Aziraphale had other plans. He wanted to take a new and comfortable job in Heaven as the chief archangel because it came with the promise that Crowley could regain full angel status. Crowley turned down the offer because he was still haunted by memories of the war between Heaven and Hell. They shared a heartbreaking kiss and parted ways.
Michael Sheen acknowledged the extraordinary importance of the season two finale and responded to the fans’ reactions with a “I know, I know.” David Tennant, who plays Crowley, also shared his thoughts on the finale, tying it to the excitement of what is to come. During a panel at Florida Supercon 2024 last month, he revealed:
“I know where it’s going and I challenge anyone not to think it’s the perfect ending. I’m not giving much away. I’m not saying whether it’s good, bad or doesn’t matter, but it’s definitely perfect.”
In addition, Neil Gaiman, co-creator of A good omenalso set the stage for the final season by looking back to when he and Pratchett first planned the story.
“I’m so happy to finally be able to finish the story Terry and I planned in 1989 and 2006. Terry was determined to see the story through to the end if we were going to make Good Omens for television. Season one was about averting Armageddon, hearing dangerous prophecies and experiencing the end of the world. Season two was sweet and gentle, although perhaps it ended less happily than a certain angel and demon had hoped. Now, in season three, we’re going to deal with the end of the world again. The plans for Armageddon go awry. Only Crowley and Aziraphale can hope to put things right together. And they don’t talk.”
Gaiman’s comments suggested a dramatic conclusion, but the fate of Aziraphale and Crowley’s story still hangs in the balance.
