Cloud-based file transfer platform WeTransfer has introduced a new “Save for Later” feature in its mobile app to solve one of the biggest annoyances for the platform’s users: expired download links.
The “Save for Later” feature allows users to extend the expiration date of their links for up to 30 days by saving their transfers directly in the mobile app.
By extending the time frame, users have more time to preview files on their devices, download them, or forward them to their desktop for later use. Saved transfers are organized in the mobile app for easier access.
Expiring WeTransfer links
The update represents a practical improvement for customers, especially creative professionals who often work with large files. Previously, customers often missed a download window due to expired links.
Jasmine Whitaker, product marketing associate, noted, “You get full control over how long you can access your files, eliminating the hassle of tracking.”
The news comes hot on the heels of Bending Spoons’ acquisition of WeTransfer and indicates a new direction and renewed focus for the platform, which the Italian developer snapped up Evernote last year.
Despite the news that Save for Later marks the beginning of a new chapter for the file transfer platform, the future remains uncertain. Bending Spoons has a history of restructuring companies following acquisitions, and the impact of ownership on the workforce and pricing for customers remains unclear.
The company declined to comment on these points as TechRadar Pro contacted us after the takeover was announced.
