The former co-stars played Marnie and Desi on the Lena Dunham-led series, and their characters’ toxic on-off relationship was held together by music. Throughout the show’s six seasons, the duo sang a variety of songs, some of which, they now reveal, were actually written by Grammy-winning producer and Dunham’s ex-boyfriend Jack Antonoff.
“I recently found out that most of our songs were copied by Kelly Clarkson,” Moss and Bachrach said in a joint Vanity Fair Interview with Williams, who added: “Some of them were. I think the song ‘Breathless’ was written by Jack Antonoff for Kelly Clarkson.”

“I like this song,” he admitted, whereupon the Fellow travelers Alum agreed: “It’s a great song, she should have sung it! But that’s why we got it.”
Although the series finale was nearly seven years ago, Williams’ portrayal of Marnie and her singing style have lived on in internet history. In February, Dunham responded to how Williams’ musical moments have led to awkward moments and long-lasting memes.
“I love that Allison kept saying during filming, Girl‘Oh my God, are you really going to make me sing that? This is so embarrassing,'” she recalled to diversity. “And I thought to myself, ‘This won’t be a big deal.'”

She continued, “And those are the things that become memes for the next 20 years. So I’m sorry, Allison.”
Girl ran for six seasons from 2012 to 2017.
