MOBILE, Alabama. – A pair of James Madison football seniors at linebacker Jacob Dobbs and Punters Ryan Hanson were named to the Reese’s Senior Bowl Preseason Watch List, the organization announced Wednesday.

Dobbs will finish his career with the Dukes in 2024 after an impressive five-year career at Holy Cross. Dobbs started all 43 games he played and was named to three major lists: the Butkus Award, Wuerffel Trophy and the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.

The Macomb, Michigan, native won Comeback Player of the Year honors and was a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy last season. Dobbs, a College Sports Communicators First Team Academic All-American, is a two-time FCS All-American and Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year after setting Holy Cross career records in tackles (432) and tackles for loss (46.5). He also has 22.5 sacks, four interceptions, four breakups, four forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and one defensive touchdown.

Hanson enters his second season at JMU and the final season of his collegiate career as one of the most successful punters in the country. He was named to the Ray Guy Award Watch List for the fifth time this year and also earned the College Football Network’s Preseason National Punter of the Year award and Preseason First Team All-American honors.

The Elgin, Texas native has appeared in 48 career games since 2020, compiling a career punt average of 42.4, with 80 of his 216 punts landing inside the 20 (37%) with just seven touchbacks. Hanson has 32 punts over 50 yards, including a long one of 73 in 2021. Last season, Hanson was named a CFN Second Team All-American and Second Team All-Sun Belt after averaging 40.6 yards per punt with most of his attempts coming on the plus side of the 50. Nearly half of his punts landed inside the 20 (29/59) with two touchbacks in 2023.

The Senior Bowl is widely considered the preeminent all-star game in college football and the first stage in the NFL Draft process. It will be held on February 1, 2025, at Hancock Whitney Stadium on the campus of the University of South Alabama.

JMU had one player ever to participate in the Senior Bowl, as former All-American cornerback Jimmy Moreland played in the 2019 game before being selected by Washington in the 2019 NFL Draft.
