The Detroit Lions received a lot of good injury news on Sunday.
Veteran defensive tackle DJ Reader has passed his medical exam and has been removed from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, the team said in a statement.
Reader, 30, was one of Detroit’s coveted free agent signings last season. He has not yet practiced with the team as he recovers from a torn quad suffered in December. Lions head coach Dan Campbell said last week he is confident Reader will soon be able to turn things around and start individual drills.

Two weeks before Detroit’s season opener against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football, it’s unclear whether Reader will be ready for the Week 1 game. He said last Monday there’s “no real timetable (for returning), but I feel good.”
Campbell mentioned Reader on Tuesday when discussing a number of injured players expected to return. That group also includes tight end Sam LaPorta (hamstring), running back Jahmyr Gibbs (hamstring), offensive lineman Kevin Zeitler (shoulder), linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez (unknown) and offensive tackle Dan Skipper (ankle).
