Good morning, A’s fans! After losing their first two games to the Brewers, the Athletics have their backs against the wall and hope to avoid the sweep. They will finish their home stretch today and it would be great to head into the road trip with a win over the NL Central-leading Brewers under their belt.
Oakland will rock rookie right-hander Joey Estes in tonight’s finale. He’s on a roll right now, as he has a great 2.82 ERA in his last seven appearances. We’ve seen tremendous development from the young pitcher here in 2024, but fans will be hoping he pitches over the finish line here in his rookie season.
His support for the offensive today:
Outfielder Daz Cameron is rewarded for his two-hit game last night and starts left field for the A’s today. Rookie infielder Darell Hernaiz is back in the starting lineup at the hot corner, but otherwise it’s more of the same lineup that scored five runs yesterday. We’d like to take five runs today.
Those hitters will be facing a familiar face: former Oakland starter Frankie Montas. The former top pitching prospect has bounced around a bit since his time with the Green & Gold. He missed virtually all of last year with the Yankees before signing with the Cincinnati Reds in the offseason. A midseason trade put him in the thick of the playoff race with Milwaukee, and that seems to have spurred him on. In his four starts with his new club, he’s posted a pristine 2.57 ERA, giving the Brewers some stability at the top of their rotation. Today, as it will be his last time pitching in the Coliseum, would be a good day to skew his ERA and do some serious damage to someone we used to cheer for.
Here’s how Milwaukee will line up for tonight’s series finale:
Thanks, Brewers, but we’ll leave the do not disturb sign on the doorknob for today. Let’s go, A’s!
