Megyn Kelly said Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s speech at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Monday was a mix of Hilaria Baldwin and Italian fascist dictator Benito Mussolini.
Kelly said on her Sirius XM podcast “The Megyn Kelly Show” that Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) tried to imitate Senator Barack Obama’s famous 2004 DNC speech by using a fake accent and shouting louder than normal – which she compared to an “attack.”
She said those who praise Ocasio-Cortez are “confusing energy or enthusiasm with effectiveness.”
“I mean, anyone can go up there and yell at you!” Kelly said before raising her voice in a mocking tone.
“That doesn’t make you a good speaker.”
Kelly said Ocasio-Cortez reminded her of Baldwin, the wife of actor Alec Baldwin, who was criticized for speaking with a Spanish accent despite growing up in the United States.
According to Kelly, Ocasio-Cortez’s mannerisms during her speech were also reminiscent of Mussolini.
“She was a mix of Hilaria, who went to a fancy boarding school in either Boston or Rhode Island and is not Spanish at all, and this guy,” she said.
“You may remember him from World War II as the leader of Italy.”
Kelly then played a clip in her podcast in which Mussolini speaks to his supporters from his balcony.
The Post has reached out to Ocasio-Cortez for comment.
The 34-year-old progressive MP faced criticism on social media following her stirring speech to delegates, with many wondering what accent she was using.
Viral videos of a portion of the speech showed Ocasio-Cortez angrily taking aim at former President Donald Trump.
“For my part, I am tired of hearing that a little anti-union activist thinks he is a greater patriot than the woman who fights every day to free working people from the greed that tramples on our way of life,” said the congresswoman from Queens and the Bronx.
Some critics accused her of using a Southern accent while shouting at the crowd.
“AOC’s speech was embarrassing. The fake accent was too much for me. My back broke. I predicted it. The DNC is embarrassing as hell,” one user posted on X.
“Preacher AOC debuts her new accent,” wrote another.
One critic chimed in: “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez developed a new fake accent in the middle of her very painful speech.”
