The Australian fan favourite Michelle Jenneke amazed the athletics world after the hurdler decided to run her race despite a torn thigh, while Ebony Lane was upset that she had to compete in the women’s 4×100 meter relay at the OlympicsSpectators were shocked when Jenneke fell at the third barrier during the 100-meter race on the 12th day of the Olympic Games.
Jenneke was stunned, admitting that she felt her leg give way during the race and couldn’t muster the strength to clear the third barrier, causing her to fall. The Australian jumped up and finished the race, allowing her to qualify for the repechage round, giving her one more chance to qualify for the final.
Many predicted Jenneke’s Olympics might be over, but the Australian mustered her determination to compete in the repechage on day 13. The 31-year-old put in a great performance, shaking her ears for fans before the race. And Jenneke managed to finish the race despite a torn thigh muscle, making for some incredible scenes.
After the race, Jenneke admitted that she had run with an intact thigh muscle. However, Jenneke admitted that she did not want to end the Olympics with a fall. “Honestly, first of all I’m really proud of myself,” Jenneke told Channel Nine.
“…I ran today with one less thigh muscle than usual and of course that was quite difficult, but… I asked the doctor: ‘Can I still run?’ I didn’t want my Olympic campaign to end like yesterday and I just wanted to do my best today.
“I knew it was probably pretty impossible to get to the semi-finals and run under 13 seconds if you forget one of the hamstrings, but I wanted to prove to myself and the rest of Australia that I had grit and wasn’t going to give up easily. The general consensus was that it was a complete tear and I couldn’t make it any worse, so as long as I continued to run hurdles without putting other parts of my body at risk, I would have the green light to compete.”
Jenneke took to social media after the race to admit that she was honoured to have competed in two Olympic Games for Australia. “Not the Olympic Games I dreamed of. Unfortunately, I completely tore my hamstring during my run, causing me to hit a hurdle and fall heavily,” she wrote. “Today was about not giving up and leaving no stone unturned. I gave it my all and am honoured to now be able to call myself a two-time Olympian.”

Michelle Jenneke defies the pain and finishes the Olympic Games on her feet
Jenneke admitted that she would not have run against official advice, but wanted to be on the starting line and do her best for her country. “Everyone was pretty much happy for me to run today,” Jenneke said.
“It’s the Olympics and you do anything to be on the start line. We knew it wasn’t going to be quick; this time it was just about proving what it takes to get back up.” Australian fans were completely in awe of Jenneke’s courage and determination in what could be her last Olympics.
The fact that Michelle Jenneke can run hurdles again despite a torn thigh is absolutely crazy. What an incredible feat #Olympics

I only saw half an hour of it #Olympics here and there, but my goodness, Michelle Jenneke makes you proud to be Australian.
She tore her thigh tendon in a fall yesterday, but still got back in the saddle in the repechage just to compete for her country… and all with a…

Ebony Lane shocked after season cancellation
Unfortunately, it hasn’t all been luck for the Australian track and field team. Ebony Lane took to social media to express her shock at not being selected for the Australian women’s 4x100m relay. The team selected Torrie Lewis, Ella Connolly, Bree Masters and Lane’s replacement Kristie Edwards, who ran for Australia and finished fourth.
The Australians ran a solid time of 42.75 in the race, but that wasn’t enough to qualify as six of the eight countries finished faster in the heats. But there was drama before the race when Lane took to social media to say she had no answer as to why she wasn’t selected. Lane was part of the relay team that recently broke the Australian record.
However, Edwards has also been part of the relay team in recent months. “Heartbroken… There aren’t many answers as to why. I’m fit, healthy and ready to go,” she wrote.
Small surprise, because the women’s 4×100 meter relay starts later today.
